Review: Jericho Guitars Walnut Evertune 6 Standard

All
I’ve always been fond of Jericho Guitars’ extended-range guitars, but what fascinated me most is that they regard a 25.75-inch scale length to be the proper scale length for all six-string guitars. Compare that to Gibson (24.74-inch) and Fender (25.5-inch). Jericho’s standard scale length provides an ideal marriage between intonation and string tension, especially for many modern players who down-tune regularly.I asked the gang at Jericho Guitars to explain the reason behind the 25.75-inch scale length. Their response was, “What you get with the slightly longer scale is a truer source signal. Traditional and modern forms of amplification, like impulse responses, benefit from the extra harmonic content provided by this scale length.” Considering that, I believe Jericho’s Fusion Walnut EverTune might be the best guitar for today’s players who gig…

All
Guitar Giant Gibson's Bankruptcy-Ending Plan Approved 10/2/2018 by Grant Rindner One of the marquee names in the guitar industry, Gibson, is preparing for life after bankruptcy. The nearly 116-year-old company submitted a plan to keep itself in business that was approved in a U.S. Bankruptcy Court on Tuesday (Oct. 2).Gibson initially filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in May, with a reorganization plan already in place to allow them to keep operating with $135 million of lent money. After that, the company rededicated to making musical instruments, since much of its financial troubles stemmed from an ill-fated foray into consumer electronics. The plan, per Reuters, is for Gibson to wipe its $500 million of debt and use as much as $70 million to galvanize its “business plan for growth.” Gibson will be run by…

(en) 10 great acoustic guitarists

All
Taking advantage of the upcoming birthday of our beloved Bert Jansch, we are going to make a short list of great acoustic guitarists. We will choose guitarists whose main instrument was/is the acoustic, so we will leave aside people as apt as Jimmy Page and Richard Thompson, who are related or close to the world of rock or similar genres (blues, folk, country…), and leaving out jazz giants or flamenco greats (if not, Paco de Lucia and Django Reinhardt would be here). Robert Johnson (May 8, 1911 - August 16, 1938) Robert Leroy Johnson (Hazlehurst, Mississippi) was a young fellow who used to hang around the great Mississippi bluesmen like Charley Patton and Son House, nobody paid him any attention, nor did he ask for much, so nobody gave it…

(en) Luthier Guitar Show

All
Being dedicated to the world of guitars over the last few years, one of the great efforts made at Guitars Exchange has been to try to cover not only massive fairs like NAMM in Los Angeles, but also to take a closer look at initiatives and fairs that are smaller, and ‘more human’, with special attention - and affection - to those events where the big players and protagonists are the luthiers and their creations. Since the first edition of the Holy Grail Guitar Show in Berlin, back in 2014, our love of this profession has been more than evident. That took us to a series of interviews with the great maestros of the guild and we even undertook our own adventure with one of them, entering the world of…

Will Ray’s Bottom Feeder: The Mystery “Epiphone” Special

All
Even Will Ray was unsure about this guitar until the price dropped below a Ben Franklin. But when it arrived, it delivered in playability and sound. I love interesting guitars. I spotted this baby a few months ago on eBay. It was listed as a “Mystery Epiphone.” The seller gave a lot of detail about how he had put the guitar together. He said he picked up the guitar’s body and neck at a flea market about five years earlier, and over time started assembling the guitar with spare parts he had on hand. The guitar started with a handpainted black body that the eBay seller painted a dull yellow. Later, he gave it a relic’d look. He did a pretty good job on it, too, in my opinion. It…
