Peavey’s New USA-Made HP2 Looks Familiar…

All
Look, there’s no way to get around this so let’s just dive in: Peavey has returned to building guitars in the USA again, in the form of the HP 2 Guitar. And It looks very much like the Peavey Wolfgang. Eddie Van Halen took the Wolfgang design with him when he left to set up his own company working with Fender, but I’m pretty sure Peavey wouldn’t have taken this step without some kind of legal justification for using the design. One thing’s for sure though: this thing looks hot. Seriously, look at it in this pic.  It’ll be interesting to see what happens from here. When EVH left Peavey, large chunks of the Wolfgang design lived on in the form of the brilliant HP Special guitar for a while.…

Gear Review: Minarik Guitars Inferno

All
Even Jimi Hendrix had to dial back his stage presence while backing up Little Richard. However, if you need all eyes on you, I’ve got the answer right here: the Inferno by Minarik Guitars. Sure, it’s the most attention-grabbing, extroverted guitar you’ve ever seen, but there’s a method behind the madness. Each flame is mathematically plotted to boost specific frequencies of the guitar. Along with, well, let’s just call them “tone flames,” the body is chambered, which helps give the Inferno its unique voice. The first question that came to my mind when I saw the Inferno was, how am I going to play this thing? I had flashbacks of that time I tried to play a Flying V while sitting down. It probably won’t become your favorite couch guitar, but…

All
GOLD AWARD Whether you’re a first-time guitar buyer or a professional with G.A.S. and a limited budget, there’s never been a better time to be in the market for an affordable new guitar than the present. While it’s been pretty easy to find a good electric solidbody with basic features and above average playability in the sub $500 range for the last 10 or 15 years, most of these instruments featured hardware, electronics and materials that placed them in the entry level category, making them useful only as temporary solutions before necessary upgrades. Recently the gap between entry level and professional guitars has become a lot narrower, as have the choices in the sub $500 range. When we looked at Mitchell’s HD400 and TD400 models a few issues ago, we…
